Why York? Why England?
Figures estimate that only 6.3% of England’s population regularly attend church, with the average age in the Church of England being 61 years. Historically York has been a spiritual centre for England, the place where Constantine first made Christianity legal and a place from which many world changers emerged.
With a student population of over 51,000 and over 4 million tourists each year York is an exciting place to bring an outreach team on a short term mission with lots of opportunities to share your faith and practically demonstrate Gods love.
We would recommend a stay of 7-14 days and can tailor a program for you that could include practical projects for those in need such as gardening or painting and decorating the homes of families who would not be able to afford this otherwise. Friday and Saturday nights could be spent handing out hot drinks and chatting to the many people out at the bars and night clubs in York city centre. Youth and children’s work including helping at local youth clubs, going in to schools to do assemblies. Plus opportunities to get involved with local churches on Sundays. We would be very keen to have you get involved with team life in York and would welcome you to join in with our community times and perhaps lead worship, devotional and intercession times or join together for some meals.
Depending on the size of the team you would be accommodated either with host families or in our community centre. Costs would be between £7 and £10 per person per day for food, accommodation and transport.
